CAMLOW CELLARS MAGNA PORCUM PINOT NOIR
Estate Grown
Green Valley of Russian River Valley
Sonoma County
Winemakers notes:
This Pinot Noir has aromas of baking spices, boysenberry and dark fruit leading
to flavors of dark cherry, plum on the palate. It’s a wonderfully
structured wine with smooth tannins, beautiful natural acidity and a lingering
finish. Very approachable right now but will improve with 4-5 years of aging.
the vineyard:
Vineyard:
Big Pig Vineyard is our Estate Vineyard providing the grapes for Magna Porcum.
In 2006, it was planted in Gold Ridge Loam soil in the heart of the Green Valley
portion of the Russian River Valley. This region is known for its distinctive
terroir, where cool conditions demand patience and reward with finesse and
flavor. " The Pig” is comprised of 4 clones; Swan, Pommard, DRC and Calera,
each providing a component to this rich wine.
Vintage:
2013 had a moderate Spring with hardly any cold days. Frost was not an
issue so the growth into bloom was even and without rain events. We saw the
marine pattern slowing the growth and maturity through mid-summer. Heat
in August and early September pushed the berries to ripeness and enabled us
to get great hang time without too many issues with rain. Harvest was in the
second week of September.
Winemaking:
We ferment in small lot bins and punch down twice a day during cold soak
to get maximum extraction from the skins. We age the wine in barrel for 15
months to give the wines more time to integrate with the oak. Using a variety
of new, once and twice filled French Oak barrels from several different coopers
and forests. Alc: 14.4% ph: 3.58 TA: 0.553 g/100ml
