The moment is finally here! Camlow Cellars is proud to release our estate Pinot Noir: 2013 Magna Porcum Pinot Noir, or as we affectionately call it, The Big Pig.
This project is a culmination of years of effort from the vineyard to the winery. From the beginning, the Magna Porcum vineyard was planted to be special. The clones used were taken into careful consideration in order to craft what we believe is a complete expression of Pinot Noir from our part of the world. The Dehlinger Selection of the Swan clone with its bright red fruit and aromatics, Calera for the structure, Pommard 4 for acidity and DRC for beautiful dark fruit. When combined the result is a wine that is both elegant and bold, yet still has balance. Alan has honed his farming techniques each year to give us the best fruit possible.
From a winemaking perspective Magna Porcum is a dream to make. Since we have control of the irrigation and pick, we can make the best possible picking decision which is critical to our desired style. It is the key aspect that allows the vintage and terroir to shine. To further exemplify the year and vineyard, we are judicious with our use of only French Oak, keeping new oak to 40% or less.
In addition to the Magna Porcum, we’re also offering our 2013 Camlow Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. The Russian River Valley is a blend of clones from the Graham Family vineyard and our dear friend, Howard Graham’s. His fruit is purchased by Testarossa, Patz and Hall and August West Wines. The Russian River Valley Pinot is a fine representation of the distinguished Green Valley portion of Russian River Valley. Bright cherry and red fruit, baking spice and the signature cola finish typify this region and this wine.
If you’ve been a fan of Keefer Ranch Pinots I urge you to try these wines. Any wine fan can relate to true discovery and these are wines we feel you’ll be proud to share and cellar, vintage after vintage. You’ll refer back to this first vintage of The Big Pig for years to come. Join us on this journey. You’ll be glad you did!
